Counselling & Psychotherapy Supervision

Supervision is a formal process in which a counsellor or psychotherapist regularly presents their work to a professionally qualified supervisor as a way of enhancing their practice through careful reflection. All qualified counsellors and psychotherapists are required to undertake regular supervision as a condition of their continued membership of their professional accrediting body.

I trained as a supervisor at Birmingham University and have provided supervision to counselling psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors for over 25 years. I understand that practitioner’s needs in supervision are likely to change over their working life and am comfortable working with experienced practitioners, trainees and the newly qualified.

The safety and welfare of patients/clients and the quality of the service they receive is central to the supervision I offer. I have a passion for developing sound, resourceful, sure-footed and ethically well-grounded practitioners and will work with you to ensure and develop the efficacy and safety of your psychotherapy / counselling practice and help you maintain ethical and professional standards of practice and enhance creativity.

Clinical and psychotherapy / counselling responsibility for the work with patients/clients remains throughout the responsibility of the supervisee.

I am a registered psychoanalytic psychotherapist and although a number of the practitioners I see for supervision are not psychoanalytically trained, my training informs the supervision that I offer.

I recognise the diversity of individuals and contexts within counselling and psychotherapy, and provide supervision to individuals, groups & to organisations in the statutory, voluntary and private sectors.
